Research interests
I mainly carry out musculoskeletal epidemiology research in the areas of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and orthopaedic surgery - using national health databases (e.g. CPRD and HES) and registries.
Some examples of current and past projects for which I am or have been statistician include:
- RUbICOn: examining the use, safety and long-term effects of intra-articular corticosteroid injections for osteoarthritis
- HIPPY: aiming to determine which implants are best for younger patients undergoing hip replacement
- NHFD: e.g. identifying factors (patient, hospital and geographical) associated with returning home after hip fracture surgery
- EVeR registry: collecting and analysing data on treatments and outcomes of deep venous disease
- Fractures-E3: investigating fractures in Sub-Saharan Africa.
I joined the University of Bristol's Musculoskeletal Research Unit in 2020 as a Senior Research Associate. Immediately prior to this (2013-2020), I'd worked in the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (NDORMS, University of Oxford) where I also undertook a DPhil using quasi-experimental approaches to estimate the impact of biologic therapy on the need for joint replacement among people with rheumatoid arthritis.
