Develop skills in creative writing and art for therapeutic purposes

Bristol University’s Centre for Personal and Professional Development has launched its 2010 programme of short courses for people wanting to develop skills in creative writing, art and personal reflection.
Bristol University's Centre for Personal and Professional Development has launched its 2010 programme of short courses for people wanting to develop skills in creative writing, art and personal reflection.

The courses aim to provide a supportive atmosphere for writing, personal reflection and an introduction to practical application of skills and are tasters to the field of creative writing and art for therapeutic purposes. 

Claire Williamson, lead tutor for the creative process course, said: "While these courses are not a qualification to practise, they offer an introduction to the field of using creative writing for therapeutic purposes."  

The courses will be taught by professionals with a range of different experiences and aim to provide a supportive atmosphere for writing, personal reflection and an insight into how writing can be used in a number of areas such as, teaching, within particular communities and for therapeutic purpose.

The courses on offer next year include:

Day schools

16 January, "Creative process", tutor: Claire Williamson  
6 February, "Using art to work with anger day school", tutor: Marian Liebmann 
6 March, "Environmental writing", tutor: Rose Flint 
15 May, 'Writing with oneself and others", tutor: Graham Hartill
Cost for each day school: £65

10-week course
11 January, Mondays from 2 to 5 pm, "Using creative writing for therapeutic purposes", tutors: Claire Williamson, Fiona Hamilton, Rose Flint, Graham Hartill
Cost: £240
